Episode 1

In 2014, I saw Re:ZERO for the first time at my college’s anime club and I came away with the feeling that it was “bad” & that the main character, Subaru, was a jerk.

However, giving Re:ZERO a second chance in 2020 because my girlfriend was a huge fan of the series. I can safety that I really enjoyed episode 1 this second time.

We are introduced to Subaru, who seems to be the typical otaku main character. Puck & Satella, which is the name of a witch, which people have a very negative reaction to that name. She also seems pretty comfortable around Subaru.

We’re also introduced to Felt, who has sold the insignia to Elsa, a suspicious looking lady with a popped fur collar. It honestly is building a pretty interesting story. It has compelling characters and compelling story.

Oh, also Subaru can time-travel is such an awesome twist to the story! I was jokingly thinking that when Subaru “died” he would restart the level again, but literally that happens & it just blew me away! I’m curious why Subaru can do this, but very curious to learn more!

Episode 2

I love that Subaru is trying to learn more about his powers. He is trying to find the “trigger” that leads to the death of himself & Satella.

It could be him meeting the Elsa earlier, but then how would she know? How did Satella know that it was going to be at the loot house? That is another question.

Elsa could have just been following him this entire time, but we know she was always headed for the Loot House. So many questions, but I’m still really excited to dive into more!

EPISODE 3

After episode 3, we still don’t know what the insignia means, but we do have Reinhardt coming to save us at the Loot House. I love that Subaru meeting this character in the last episode is now asking for his help to setup a way for him & Emilia to live. Oh yeah, Satella told us her name, which is Emilia.

Interestingly, Elsa sees the insignia as a bad thing. Even Reinhardt is taken aback after seeing it. It does seem like Emilia understand the importance of the insignia. Maybe it is related to lineage or elves in some way because we do learn that elves are consider to be superior.

However, the fact that Felt & Rom have no feelings toward the insignia does seem to be very odd, but I don’t quite know why they are not having a similar reaction to the other characters.

EPISODE 4

We’re introduced to the Roswaal family mansion & already weird stuff is going on because Roswaal & Ram have this creepy moment together, curious to learn their true intention. Don’t trust them yet.

At the same time, Roswaal seems suspicious of Subaru & Emilia. We’re introduced to Rem & Betty as well the importance of all these characters is currently unknown at the moment.

However he does seem to endorse Emilia to take the place of the king of Lugunica. We finally learn that the insignia is meant to represent those who are candidates to the throne. That explains Reinhardt reaction to seeing it in episode 3.

It also makes Elsa’s intention clear as well, but then in the last minute of the episode, time resets, which is just insane. I’m curious if he is going to learn how to control the powers of reverting back to time? And will that time manipulation happen without him dying?

EPISODE 5

This was a build up episode, not the most exciting one. Most of this episode was having us learn about characters, but I really want to get into the grittier aspects of this story.

It seemed like they ignored the cliffhanger set up in episode 4, but at the very end of episode 5. We see Subaru die. Potentially due to some poison? It was a rather gruesome death sequence. I’m curious if this is potentially Elsa? We never saw her die in episode 3, but then again she wouldn’t have poisoned him. Maybe it’s another hunter? Also did everyone in the mansion get poisoned & killed?
