One Piece Chapter 1185 Review – Sad Bones

Welcome to One Piece Chapter 1185, we have a lot to cover this chapter a lot went on and not all of it is super happy or exciting.

At the beginning of this chapter, Brook is learning to be a gentleman because he is always talking about wanting to see your panties. Maybe not so much of a shocker, but the fact that Candel wanted to change Brook by having him not say that, but now as he is older, he still does is something else. Brook, he needs a lot to figure out with himself.

Shuri asks Brook about his dreams of being a pirate, which I love that Brook has always wanted to be a pirate, but because of the kindness of Leuven and Candel that he chose to put aside his dream to make them happy. This is so beautiful to tie in his respect for others while also giving him a perfect reason to join the Rumbar Pirates.

Brook also mentions an island that I don’t think we’ve heard about before, Kamigata. Now, when I looked up this online, I could not find any One Piece island that says Kamigata. But what I did find was this actually the map of Kansai in Japan. This area includes cities like Osaka & Kyoto. Kamigata is specifically in reference to the Edo period for their Kabuki theaters and for their Ukiyo-e art. This is very entertainment centric so it makes sense Brook would be knowledge about an island dedicated to the arts!

We also learn the world government showed up at Esperia for the first time. Everyone was freaking out about why is the world government here. This lends credence to them coming back later and realizing, hey, we need some Tributes. At first I was like, that’s kind of crazy, but I guess that makes sense.

We’re building up the reason why they are coming back for Shuri at some point. And then we quickly learn that Candel got sick for a few months, a mysterious disease. Right after the world government showed up.

I was looking up online. Is it amber lead? No, because that’s more akin to like the minerals. Then I think about what happened with Ginny & how she got it from her time in Mary Geoise. However, an elder who was most prolific in Kuma’s backstory and Egghead in general was St. Jay Garcia.

Interestingly enough, there is another elder who is so important to this story, which is Marcus Mars that we see at the end of the chapter. So I’m wondering if each of the five elders have unique contagious diseases. And the sickness Candel got was from Marcus Mars’ disease.

Also once the World Government left, a mist on the island begins to get thicker and thicker into fog causing people to get sick & causing the decay of instruments turning this island of music into silence.

The only thing I could think of relating to a thick fog was maybe Caesar Clown? This fog also reminds me a bit of Thriller Bark too. It was originally in the West Blue so are we in the Florian Triangle? It would perfectly connect to Brook & his story.

I feel like this is such an important piece of what’s happening to this island that we need to know right this isn’t as simple as the island being destroyed by Uranus or something. These are questions we need answers too.

Also very soon after Candel dies from a sickness now this was like the biggest factor when I was thinking about what happened to Candel because we already know that at some point Shuri gets Domi Reversi and she kills her father right that was very clear, but I was like what happened to Candel. Now we know, but I am still believing this all ties back to the visit from the world government. Is it Marcus Mar giving her a disease or is it truly as simple as having asthma.

Amidst the chaos, Brook is training Shuri much like what Candel did for Brook. Brook tells Shuri that she can see into the future, which I think is safe to say, she has future sight! Crazy panel to just drop in the middle of all of this.

As all this is happening, the Celestial Dragons are now asking for a heavenly tribute. They’re like yo you got a pretty nice island here why don’t you pay up. And who knows, maybe at this point, Candel rejected a Celestial Dragon and now they are asking for them to pay up.

Of course, Leuven doesn’t take this lying down because he starts a war with the world government. The island cannot afford the tribute & Leuven does not want to sell a thousand of his people into slavery to appease the world government. We see Leuven take a stand as he rallies his troops & Brook to fight back against the World Government.

It seems that the World Government is being pushed back. Fires are igniting all throughout the island. When I originally recorded the video, I thought the fog hadn’t lifted, but by the time the war begin, the fog lifted. So that even more makes me suspicious that that fog was intentional.

Lastly, this final panel is insane because we got mysterious guy here smoking. We have Shuri who is clearly Domi Reversi’d. We see her wings & horns. Leuven who is lying on the floor dead who also has wings & devil horns. So at some point, Imu wanted these two to kill each other. Probably so Mu can keep one of them.

Also Marcus Mars showing up here as well. We are missing whole chunks of importance. Why is this mysterious admiral showing up? Why is Marcus Mars showing up? I get that Leuven started a war, but this seems like a drastic escalation. Why is an elder showing up?

And this mysterious admiral looks very similar to Shiryu, which is just such an insane reveal. Former Head Jailer of Impel Down and now is a member of the Blackbeard pirates. How is that possible that he is here as an admiral. How old is he??

Also it has been often theorized that the “man marked by flames” could be Shiryu so to have Shiryu show up so prominently in Brook’s backstory. Makes everything so much more fascinating.

Oda certainly cooked with this chapter & I am excited to read more!!
