This post is a April 2026 transcription of this video. The text has been edited for readability while preserving my original sentiment.
I just wanted to talk about gambling and I made some notes because a lot of you actually sent in a bunch of questions anonymously. Now this is not about other creators and how they should conduct their own streams. Nor is it me casting judgment on creators. Really, this video is about how I want to conduct my streams and my opinions on gacha games and how that relates to gambling.
So, I definitely don’t want people to go like, Oh, you’re singling out XXX creators. Absolutely not. This is what I want to do with my own streams. And if I see other streamers doing it, I don’t care. This is not me standing on a high horse. This is just me, like, what I feel comfortable doing on my stream
Thank you everyone so much for sending in your comments for the video. It helped inform me on how I should approach this video. Originally, this video was going to be me just talking about gacha and gambling. And then hearing your thoughts, incorporating that more. I’m very honored that a lot of your spent time writing up paragraphs of your thoughts. I appreciate it!
GACHA IS NOT GAMBLING
A lot of you actually submitted questions saying that, gacha isn’t gambling. A lot of the same people also mentioned that they were free-to-play players. My opinion I have is that gacha is gambling. There are definitely worse forms of gambling than gacha. But, gacha still plays in the very predatory roles that standard gambling does.
You are still spending money to get a chance at a character. Much like, in gambling, you are spending money to get a chance at winning money back. The transaction on what you might get back is different, but it is still gambling. You are not able to just buy a character outright. You have to continue to roll. In fact, everyone calls it pulling, which is a gambling terminology. Even though gambling does not have a pity system. You are still spending absurd amounts of money to randomly, hopefully, get a character based on pure RNG.
content creators aren’t to blame
Someone actually brought this up, and it was a really great comment. Content Creators shouldn’t be blamed for rolling in gacha on stream. People mentioned that as long as they are not deceptively saying that, like, Oh, look at this, I got this five-star character. Wow, you guys all need to get this five-star character. Because if you don’t, you don’t really care about the character. Like, you, there’s some responsibility in sharing gacha? There’s some responsibility in sharing pulls. You can lose a lot of money.
I do agree that content creators aren’t to blame for the cause. In fact, the reason I made this video is because this issue isn’t an everyone issue. It will affect a very small set of people, but I also don’t want to be the contributor of that. I do believe that content creators hold a lot of power. I’ve also fallen into this trap, the amount of times where I’m like, I love this character, I’m gonna pull them, I’m gonna C6 them. And that kind of talk, it definitely feels like, if you are someone who is maybe addicted to gambling or addicted to gacha. It will encourage you more to pull for a character.
It’s on the individual
A lot of people have also mentioned in the comments, Is it up to the individual? So the individual rolling for gacha, they are a responsible, most likely adult. Responsible enough to spend their own money and to pull for gacha. But the reason why I bring up these questions, the reason why I brought up this conversation is the focus on the people who are being exploited. The people who are whales, The ones that have the issue of gacha addiction, or gambling addiction.
Those are the people that this video I’m worried about? As a creator, it’s not always fair to ignore the negative effects I could have on someone. Obviously, you can’t protect everyone. Although I do my best to avoid flashing lights to avoid epilepsy stuff on stream, there will always be a chance where I am caught off-guard by flashing lights. YouTube’s auto-captions on my videos don’t always work so people who aren’t able to hear or understand me clearly can’t enjoy my videos.
Only recently, because of the Twitch drama for gambling, did I start to think about my effects as a creator for pulling gacha. I also cannot support every single group of people, but I think for pulling. It is worth trying to not do.
Pulls are fun to watch!
This one’s a great one because and I’m guilty of that as well, It’s very fun to watch people pull. It’s just fun to see someone get very happy, See someone’s wins and losses? At the same time, there is joy from watching a content creator lose so much money. It validates my own loss. The last thing you want to do is see a content creator get it on the first roll. But there is a side to it, that, although we are having fun, but sometimes we get carried away.

When I got my Zhongli on my 30th pull, it was actually my 70th because of how the pity system works. You lose track of this concept of getting good pulls. I’ve never had good Genshin pulls in my life. The image above is my stats from Paimon.moe & you can see that Yae Miko was the closest to a good pull. Which is also an incorrect reading because I didn’t know Paimon.moe existed when I first started Genshin, when I first did pulls. So this Yae Miko is probably from a carryover pull I did years before. It’s so deceptive, because even I don’t understand fully the gacha system. The chances for a 5 star are so low. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
Another great question someone said was that watching pulls can be a way to vent impulsive behaviors, and so they mentioned their own struggle with gacha addiction and gaming addiction. And they mentioned that sometimes watching people pull releases their impulsive behavior. I used to think that this would make people impulsive to want to pull themselves, but I never knew that it could be the opposite effect as well. Which is really cool.
So I didn’t even think about a way to do that. And to that point, a lot of people mentioned, just responsibly pull. They mention how rare it is to pull a character. Mention a money limit that you have. Mention to play responsibly. And these are all great aspects, and I do see a lot of creators also being very responsible. At least the creators I follow are being very responsible with their pulls. I think that’s really cool. If you’re gonna pull, be responsible. Let people know that this is an issue. Someone mentioned to me, and I don’t know whether this was a rhetorical question or whether this was just a question they wanted to ask me, so I just wrote it down anyways, which is, how do you justify your pulls?
And that was an interesting question, and I actually just didn’t bother thinking about it until now because I wanted to kind of walk you through my process of thinking about it. The first thing that comes to mind is nothing. There’s not really a way for me to justify it. Obviously, I like characters who are hot. I am a waifu husbando collector. That is Genshin to me.
I used to be someone who was like, I want a C6 Dehya, but I was watching AliciaXDeath’s stream. She was doing Genshin account reviews & someone had a badass C6 Yelan with maxed out stats and had her weapon. The person had said this Yelan only cost $900 & Alicia responds with mentioning how it was a good deal.
I was blown away. I didn’t know that $900 would be considered a good deal for a C6 5 Star character. That immediately killed any interest in C6-ing. I’m a C1 player for life? That is way too much money. But that’s just, everyone has their own justifications for what is worth it.
When I had Bennett, everyone wanted me to play Bennett. And I played Bennett for a long time, but I eventually just decide to not use him because I don’t like him. I like Noelle, I like Yelan. You can go back and watch me playthrough Liyue to Sumeru and still have mycore team. I still have Noelle there, I still have Yelan. Though I might switch her out with Candace because I love Candace. Candace is a great character.
Weapon Gacha
I don’t like pulling for weapons in gacha games, which I have done a lot in Honkai Impact. If there is a new character that looks cool I’ll pull, but I don’t care about weapons. I don’t play very many gacha games. I have to really enjoy the game, like Honkai, Genshin, PSO2, and Aether Gazer. Aether Gazer had it made out for one of the characters who was so cute. That’s kind of my rule.
Supporting the Developer
It’s the way they’re able to constantly provide updates and, and whatnot. And because it’s free to play, it allows more people to play it. So, unlike a subscription, which will prevents a lot of people from coming in. Gacha’s a great way to support the great developers and there’s nothing wrong with that. Like I mentioned, I am not gonna talk about the ways to improve gacha, and the ways to make this game better, but gacha is a way to support the developers, even though there are other ways to do it.
How will I change my Streams?
I’m not pulling on stream, period. That’s it. And there are actually a few different reasons that I want to kind of discuss why I chose not to pull on stream. So, one is despite being a small creator, I still have influence if me not pulling on stream could help someone with impulsive tendencies to not pull for a character. And, that’s fine by me. Sure, and yes, sure, they can go to another stream and watch someone pull, but at least on my stream, that’s just not a worry. That’s honestly like the biggest reason, and despite even though someone actually mentioned like a first, first-hand experience of how sometimes watching pulls vents impulsive behavior, that’s not always the case. And for me, I just feel more comfortable just not worrying about that.
Two and this is a big one. I believe everyone who’s watching this video will agree that it is a good choice to not pull on stream. Which is, I also find myself breaking rules when going into gacha pulls. Within the excitement of everyone around me, chat cheering me on, all the hype and excitement, I make dumb choices. I get into the moment and I start making dumb choices. The limit of how much I’m willing to spend increases during those exciting moments for gacha. I get filled with more motivation to make sure I pull what I want right there during the stream instead of like waiting a couple of weeks to try again after I’ve gotten more primogems or any kind of other gacha currencies. Which is a big issue.
Three, I just want to be separate from all this. I don’t want to associate myself with the excitement and the hype of gacha rolls. Mentally, it is a bad combination if every time I’m pulling for gacha, my excitement and hype start to fire off and then seeing chat super excited, I’m super excited, and then when the five star character comes out, like, that is such a bad mentally. Despite me not thinking I have a gacha addiction, certainly pulling on stream makes me pull more than I should.
Right now I already have C3 Candace, I tried pulling for Cyno didn’t get him, I had, I saved up about 11,000 primogems. And I failed the pity & got Jean. And then I decided it wasn’t worth getting Cyno anymore. If this was on stream. I would’ve spent as much as I could to get him at least once.
To be fair, I’ll talk about the characters. I’ll still make posts about how cool the characters are, I still have yet to rank characters in Genshin, I still have yet my in-depth look at the characters and their skins, so there’s still gonna be a lot more things for me to do with these Genshin characters, but pulling is just not gonna be one of them. I hope you all enjoyed it. I’ll see you all later. Bye! Thanks for watching!
