The Story of Mamook – Day 3 of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail

Day three of my discussion on Dawntrail. We are at level, I think, 95. We are just about to begin our journey to search for the City of Gold. Let’s start with meeting Ketenramm. He’s a Roegadyn, but his face is unlike anything I’ve seen in a Roegadyn ever. And I don’t know whether that is just because like, hey, this is how the devs want Roegadyns to look in the future. But it looks like like an actual human face, like a real world human face with a Gigachad filter on it. And it’s very uncanny. Either way, really cool that we end up meeting him & got two new keystones at the end of Day 3.

So the first keystone that we got was from the Feat of Repast. And this was very interesting. We were visiting the Xbr’aal for the next part of the competition. Even though Valigarmanda was released by Bakool Ja Ja, he still had to wait for us because the entire the actual competition for this moment required us to be in teams. So everyone had to wait for each other, which is very funny.

And it ended up being like a cooking thing where we had to cook this very specific dish, which name I’m going to mispronounce. I’m not going to attempt it. But this dish was meant to represent the piece that was brought by Gulool Ja Ja between the Xbr’aals and the Mamool Ja. And I that was it was very funny. So like it was a lot different than what we have done in the past. And the fact that we had two warriors who who want to just fight and kill things had to do the cooking thing was very funny. But really, there’s not much to talk about how that thing whole thing went.

But the important part is that the elector was named Hunmu Rruk. And he was Wuk Lamat’s father. And I think that was such an amazing like reveal because it because, you know, we have moments where like Wuk Lamat would mention that like, oh, yeah, I’ve been abandoned by my family. Like she doesn’t know who her family was. And when Hunmu Rruk was like talking about him also losing a daughter who would would have been Wuk Lamat’s age at the time. And she fell down one of the they call it cenotes, which are these like sinkholes. And he couldn’t rescue her. And it wasn’t until Gulool Ja Ja was able to rescue her. And weird thing is that the elector was like, OK, then I’m just going to give you my daughter and let you take care of her. And for him, he was like, you know, my daughter died when she fell down the pit. And now this daughter, this this person’s not really my daughter.

But either way, he has very confusing emotions to it. So one of the lackeys of Bakool Ja Ja ended up taking and kidnapping the elector Hunmu Rruk. And what ended up happening is like he’s like, yo, they forced Wuk Lamat to like join us, like because they wanted to steal all of our keystones and like, OK, we’ll use your father as leverage. And so, you know, right in the open, in the middle of this battlefield, they’re like, yo, this is your father. And if you want to rescue him, then you have to give us all your keystones.

And then what ended up happening is it was like this amazingly epic fight scene between Bakool Ja Ja and Wuk Lamat, and we got to be as Wuk Lamat. And it was so much fun. I originally I was like getting a little bit confused with some of the controls, but I eventually got it down and it was just so much fun. I I just I greatly enjoyed that experience of just playing through playing as Wuk Lamat and fighting Bakool Ja Ja to the point where like he ran he ran away and he got scared. And I was like, that is so cool. It was a very touching scene. And what I really appreciated and I didn’t really appreciate it when I was leading up to the saving the father, but I appreciate it after that quest was done, which was that they never mentioned like it was never confirmed like Wuk Lamat and her father.

Mamook

They never told each other that like they are related. And I think that was like a really smart on the writer’s part, because, you know, technically, her father gave, you know, Wuk Lamat away after she she fell down the cenote because Gulool Ja Ja like rescued her and then he kept her. And the elector knew, knew this. He knew this. And he still allowed. He still didn’t want to, you know, raise her daughter. He’s like, oh, you’re going to be raised by someone even better. And I think that moment is really important because it’s like, yeah, you know, Hunmu Rruk doesn’t get doesn’t deserve the opportunity to call Wuk Lamat his daughter. And Wuk Lamat should not have to call him her father, because really that that guy may have been your your birth father, but he definitely did not raise you to the person you are now. And that’s what Gulool Ja Ja. So I really appreciate that. They they they really specifically did not have that conversation between the two that like, oh, dad, it’s been so long since I’ve seen you. Like, I’m glad that he did not have that conversation, which is really great.

And then we now move over to visit the Ja Tiika Heartland. And this area was really beautiful because everything was was bioluminescent. Right. It was all illuminated. And what we later learned is like it’s basically the meteorites that were from like an ancient meteor shower crashed down on the heartland. And what ended up happening is a lot of the plant life that use ether as a use using this very specific type of ether that was emanating from these meteorites were able to cultivate. But what ended up happening was it also led to a lot of other crops dying.

Ja Tiika Heartland

And so a lot of the people in Mamook, which is the main town in the heartland and where all the Mamool Ja are from, they wanted to find a way to live on the surface. And keep in mind, like the heartland is like filled with canopies. And so you don’t see any like actual real sunlight. It’s all illuminated by all these like glowing plants. And everyone, you know, you talk to the people in Mamook and they all wanted a way. They all want to go to the surface because, hey, they can cultivate plants. They could have more like sunlight. They they had all these reasons why they wanted to move up. And what we ended up doing was we sent we were like, hey, Koana was like, hey, I’m going to send you guys seeds from Sharlayan that can strive in this environment so that you guys can have a flourishing place where you not only get to have trade your trades open up by trading seeds with other things that are very valuable in the heartland, as well as being able to cultivate your own crops so that you can grow and flourish.

And the reason why I’m talking about this moment here is because for the longest time, when we first entered Mamook, everyone was silent. No one was talking to us because they were they did not want to talk to outsiders. And it was because of their blessed sibling zealotry. And essentially what that was is that they believed that the only superior race was the Mamool Ja and specifically the two headed Mamool Ja. And because it represents this superiority, this this conquering attitude, which was because they saw that the person on top of all of Tural was a two headed Mamool Ja. So they constantly wanted to make sure that they would be breeding the best of the best Mamool Ja and a lot of that was the two headed Mamool Ja. When we learn about the blessed sibling, Bakool Ja Ja actually tells us this backstory. He basically asked us, like, hey, do you know why we have two headed Mamool Ja? It’s because they constantly are killing like babies so that eventually they can. create a two headed Mamool Ja. Like it’s basically like if you’re not two headed, you’re dead. You’re not good at it. You’re not. You’re dead. Like essentially, they are constantly trying to breed the best of the best. And it’s like a horrifying scene. It’s like straight up horrifying scene.

Zereel Ja
Zereel Ja

And one of the greatest moments with obviously with Wuk Lamat as well, she was like, hey, like this is horrifying. This is awful. I want some way to help you because it sounds like you’re suffering and you no longer want this like traditional religious practice to keep occurring. And then also we had in another amazing moment where we were about to fight the shade of Gulool Ja Ja because if you can’t beat him, how are you expected to take his throne, right? When Wuk Lamat joins the fight and he’s like, oh, you want to fight? You’re going to lose. Yada, yada, yada. The elector is like you’re going to lose. Ha ha ha. Whatever. And then Koana joins. It’s like I’m joining the fight with her. And then the elector was like, no, no, no, no, no, no. Only one elector can do the fight at once. And then Koana does it in the most dramatic way possible. He throws up the keystone like tablet and he shoots it with his gun. He’s like, all right, then I’m not a claimant anymore. I’m going to fight with her. And then that moment was like, yeah, he now he and he gives us a whole speech about how like he is now behind Wuk Lamat 100% because he sees the true future of Tural through her because of everything that he got to experience working alongside her, which was absolutely wonderful. So brilliant. And then we get obviously an amazing fight with the entire party here fighting against Gulool Ja Ja to finally get the final keystone for us to be able to go to the City of Gold.

We had like two awesomely cool fights happening between but surprisingly between two two headed Mamool Ja, which is very funny. But yeah, this was once again, because like, you know, in day one and day two, there’s still a lot of new things to explore, a lot of new things to see. But here, even though we visit Yok Tural and Yok Tural has absolutely the environments in Yok Tural are absolutely beautiful from the amazing rainforests to the dark bioluminescent plants. There was so much to explore in Yak T’el. It was it was just such an amazing place to visit and so drastically different than anything else we’ve seen, like continuously there, continuously to it continues, continuing to impress me with the way they’ve designed all of their environments. It’s really cool.
